The Journey from Raw Clay to the Finished Piece
In this wheel-throwing course, you will learn every step of the process required to transform a simple lump of clay into a finished piece of pottery.
First, you will learn how to center the clay on the wheel. Then, with a little patience, the walls will begin to rise, curves will take shape, and your desired form will emerge.
Once the vessel reaches the leather-hard stage, it is time for trimming. This involves refining your object on the wheel to give it a beautiful foot ring and its final shape.
In the third part of the course, you will glaze your bisque-fired pieces. We offer a wide selection of glazes, allowing you to give your objects a truly personal touch. After that, your pieces will go into the kiln for one final firing. They will be ready for pickup two to three weeks later.
The course includes:
3 hours of throwing on the pottery wheel
3 hours of trimming and refining your pieces
2 to 3 hours of glazing (we will schedule this appointment separately)
All material costs and two firings
After completing this course, you will have the opportunity to use our Open Studio in Zürich to keep creating.
