7-Week Intensive Pottery Wheel Course in Zurich

Over seven evenings (three hours each), you will learn the craft of wheel-throwing from the ground up. By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation, master all the essential steps, and be able to work completely independently at the pottery wheel.

To ensure you get the most out of this course, we work in a small group of maximum five people. This allows plenty of room for you to truly connect with the material and purposefully develop your technique.

Master the Basics and Build a Solid Foundation

On the very first evening, you will get familiar with the pottery wheel and practice centering. From there, we dive straight into the foundational hand movements.

During the following evenings, you will refine your technique, practice the basic cylinder shape, and learn how to properly prepare your clay. An essential part of the process is trimming. This involves refining your leather-hard piece on the wheel to give it a beautiful foot ring and its final shape.

As the course progresses, you will explore other shapes like bowls or vases and learn how to manage larger amounts of clay on the wheel. Week by week, you will expand your skills so you can confidently try your hand at more complex vessels. On the final evening, we come full circle, and you will glaze your bisque-fired pieces.

The course includes:

  • All clay and glazes, as well as all firing costs
  • Up to 8 handmade items
  • Individual guidance in a small group setting

Note: Should you throw more pieces, additional objects will be charged according to our Pricelist. Your finished pieces will be ready for pickup 3 to 6 weeks after the course ends.

fter completing this course, you will have the necessary know-how to independently bring your own ideas and projects to life during the Open Studio. des Keramikstudios Zürich deine eigenen Ideen und Projekte selbstständig umzusetzen.
